Mary Kay was born in Syracuse, New York in 1961. She grew up in upstate New York and attended State University of New York at Binghamton, where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in economics, with a concentration in mathematics.
Mary Kay graduated from Villanova Law School in 1989. Prior to graduating, she worked as a summer law clerk at Rawlings, Olson & Cannon in Las Vegas, where she concentrated on insurance defense issues.
Mary Kay put herself through college and law school, waiting tables and tending bar.
In 1989, Mary Kay moved to Las Vegas with her mother and her sister. She passed the bar exam in 1989, and began work as an associate at Jones, Jones, Close & Brown. During her time as an associate, Mary Kay worked on a variety of civil law issues.
In March, 1991, Mary Kay began her career with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, where she remains today, as a chief deputy District Attorney. As a Deputy District Attorney, Mary Kay prosecutes all types of misdemeanors and felonies.
